Stephanie Brandenburg
Hi! It’s Stephanie... This past year has been such a whirlwind of fun and creativity for me! My first fabric line, “Fern Hill Iris” was so amazing to create. I was prepared for the joy and satisfaction of being a part of my creative process, but it is so rewarding to see what others create with the fabric! I didn’t expect that kind of artistic sharing would make this process come full circle for me. I am always so inspired when someone comes in to the shop with their creation and their interpretation of the fabric in their finished or unfinished tops and quilts.
“Fingerpaints” is such a great color palette for everyone and I look forward to more great colors! This line really unlocks the door of creativity for quilters. It has such great texture and verve! It is so rewarding to see this line used in quilts, curtains, or any home decorative piece. At Fern Hill, we are even developing placemats, quilts, and runners with these vibrant lines.
I began painting on architectural antiques about 12 years ago. I have a BA in History and I was always going to “do something” with my degree, such as teach or go on to law school. I began working at Fern Hill part time when I was in college. I fell in love with design and I have been at Fern Hill designing since 1990.
My painting always involves architectural antiques and botanicals. I have painted on everything from armoires to little school slates. If something is cracked, like a window - I just paint right on it - I love using the historical pieces of our past and making something from nothing; a concept familiar to the quilting world. So it was a natural transition to fabric design. Everything around me inspires me. My immediate family (which includes my husband and 4 children), dear friends and our family at Fern Hill all contribute to the creative process. The possibilities are endless and I am so excited to be creating in so many mediums. And to top it all off, most recently I have been asked to be a Project Producer for Country Gardens Magazine with Meredith Corporation! I am thrilled and honored to work with that creative team. I believe art comes full circle and I am excited to see what possibilities are around the corner!

Fern Hill IrisThere is an ancient saying about the Iris... 'a sword for its leaf, a lily for its heart.' I painted Iris because of its unpretentious majesty in the garden. When the iris bloom, they reminds me of ladies in ball gowns.. dancing above their leaves! |

Fingerpaints"Fingerpaints was a happy accident ", remarks designer Stephanie Brandenburg. "I created Fingerpaints to go with Dandelion as a companion, but when we had it out on the table we thought - ‘Hey this could be a great blender series!’ So we decided to release 24 colors! I love it! It is so artsy and the color blend is perfect for the art quilter! I can't wait to come up with more colors!" |

Dandelion DaysFern Hill's Dandelion Days came about because I envisioned the lovely bouquets that children feel compelled to pick. I love how they go from blossom to blossom, thinking of pleasing mom and dad, or grandma and grandpa - or whomever they love, with these beautiful floral gatherings. |

HollyhocksArtist Stephanie Brandenburg tells the story that as a girl, she and her friends would spend lazy summer days picking hollyhocks and making dolls and doll dresses out of their chubby riotous blossoms. That memory came back to her one day in her studio, and the next thing she knew the Hollyhock Collection was in full bloom, so to speak! Enjoy the visual splendor that is Hollyhocks in your shop or in your next project! |
