Keri Speidel

I’m Keri Speidel and I live in Lisbon, Iowa (aka, "Small Town, USA”) where lawnmowers and tractors are commonly used as means of transportation. My husband, Lonnie is the track and field coach at Cornell College. We have two sons, Baylor who will be two in August and Brody, our newest ‘design’. And just to make things a bit more interesting, there are two crazy beagles! I graduated from Cornell College with a degree in art and secondary education and went on to teach middle and high school art at Highland Middle and High School in Riverside, Iowa. I love teaching and being around students but when the time came, I decided to stay at home with my kiddos. Although a huge sacrifice financially, it has been worth every second and God has provided me with the opportunity to design fabric at the perfect time.

I’ve always loved art and to doodle or draw on just about anything, including math tests, church bulletins, the wall... whatever I can get my hands on! I had been doing some art on the side, (drawing, painting, cartoons and photography) but it wasn’t getting me very far, until Sue Penn suggested that I design fabric. I had never thought about it, but like I mentioned, the timing was perfect and I found that I had a knack for it.

When I am not doodling and thinking up a new fabric design you might find me playing trucks with Baylor, refinishing furniture I find on the curb, baking not so healthy sweet treats or running. I also love sports (as the only girl in the house, I had better love sports!) and listening to talk radio when I can find a spare moment. I am an Iowa girl from the top of my curls to the tip of my shoe and I hope that my designs let the spirit of the Heartland show through.

Little Darlings (Flannel Collection)

The inspiration for “Little Darlings” came from the birth of our first son, Baylor. I’ve always loved baby fabric, but thought it lacked something and I wanted to add that “something” to it! I was sitting in church before Baylor was born, doodling, and came up with the ideas. Now that it’s printed and looking so adorable, (if I do say so myself!) I’m excited to make a quilt for our son Brody, who is due in August.
