Cathmar Prange
Hi Everyone.... this is Cathmar Prange. Those that know me would say that I 'danced' my way into art and fabric design! My passion as a child was dance. As an adult I channeled that passion into teaching dance for years. As my children came along I became involved in visual arts; (with kids, you can't avoid it...mud pies, leaf pressing and papier-mâché' projects!), taking continuing education art classes to not only help them but to inspire me!
Painting turned into my new passion. I found that I loved painting flowers. The graceful bending and swaying of flowers in the Iowa breeze reminded me of dance and so I began to paint with a newfound inspiration. I try to paint everyday. I am blessed with a lovely light filled coach house on my property, and so it doesn't take much to coax me back there to pick up my brushes! I love to gather up my paintings for solo exhibits and let others enjoy my work.
Recently, I began experimenting with painting for the sake of fabric design. A serendipitous meeting at a local arts festival with the design director of Camelot Cottons, and the rest as they say, “is history”! "Dayflowers" is my first fabric collection. It was a challenge, but one that I am happy that I accepted. I hope you enjoy using “Dayflowers”. I imagine their floral faces dancing their way around in your quilts, home accessory and wearable projects even as I pick up my brush to paint some more!
